fibroadenomas Is there anyone here that has gone through surgery for fibroadenomas. I am 32 years old, I discovered a lump in my breast, went to the doctor and this is what he has told me most likely what I have. I am scheduled to have surgery to have it removed and then biopsied for cancer. I am just really nervous and scared. Of course I'm allowing myself to spin out of control and can't stop thinking the worst!

wow sorry to hear that. Of course you are scared Anyone would be. I would suggest you ask your oncologist if s/he knows of any support groups for women possibly facing cancer. Many hospitals have them and they can be invaluable. I hope the biopsy comes back clean! By the way, this is a forum for queer women.

I know it is frightening to find a lump When I found a lump Christmas morning-I really freaked out. It was just a sebaceous cyst. This past spring the radiologist found something on mammogram. Ultrasound, needle biopsy, lumpectomy, radiation, and halfway through chemo. Found a support group right after the needle biopsy and it has been really helpful. They did not give me any reason to think it was benign by the time of the needle biopsy. If they have indicated that you likely have a benign condition, that just needs biopsy/removal--that is probably what it is. However even breast cancer is considered a treatable chronic disease these days. A PIA--but just a chronic thing that needs appropriate interventions and alertness. No worse than being a diabetic.

Think about a second opinion Have you had an MRI..if they are pretty certain it is a fibroadenoma it doesn't need to be removed..perhaps just watched?

Really don't worry- fibroadenomas = no sweat! I've had fibroadenomas, my entire family is fibroid forming. I had removed several years ago... and then I grew some more! Which have all been biopsied and I have no cancer. The chance of fibroadenomas being cancer is very very slim but it does freak you out at first. If you want to check out more info on the web about them I can say it helps. Beast cancer has a specific feel like a hard seed; non-cancerous lumps are often larger, rubbery, move around, fill with fluid at menstration, painful, in specific quadrants of the breast. At least you're facing up to it fast. You'll almost most likely (99%) have a non-cancerous lump. Going through getting them removed made me take better care of my health.

rarely cancerous - but not never... periodic monitoring - unless that monitoring involves quarterly biopsies may result in a cancer that had a lot of time to grow...personal knowledge

Bluem You have some good experienced thoughts here. I, too am going thru breast cancer (inflammatory)treatments. The chemo & surgery & radiation will and do all suck, but assaid:bc is also treatable.curable. Yours seems cancer free. You can and talk to : American Cancer Society, your Dr,your health care provider;they all have resources to help you whether or not it is cancer. Peace and good health
