Kicking and screaming into technology It is time to buy my first camera. Even reading the reviews leaves me bewildered. Yet your beautiful photographs posted here (love the duck dance) make me want to try. The only thing I know for sure that I require is that it work well in low light and that it have a very fast recovery time so that I could take a picture every 3-4 seconds. I have a friend that has to wait almost 20 seconds and by then the magical moment is lost. Now here is a dumb question. Do you plug them in to recharge or do you have to carry and change batteries ( I remember the old days)

I just looked at upgrading mine I have a Canon Powershot SX200IS which I'm very happy with. Not great at close-ups,that's probably its biggest fault (unless I'm doing something wrong which is highly likely!). It's a nice compact camera which uses a rechargeable battery - on holiday recently I was able to take over 500 photos in one day on one battery charge. I went to a camera shop and said I was looking to upgrade and was shown a rather ugly looking camera which used 2 small traditional-style batteries. I asked how many photos could be taken using them in one go. About 200 was the answer and to take more photos in one day you'd need to carry spare batteries round with you. I didn't bother buying it. For your first camera would you be best with a compact camera?

i think compact would be the way to go although I do not know the difference other than size. I have heard good things about the Canon. it is too bad about the closeups because I would like to take pictures of flowers among other things. Thank you for the reply.

I should tell you that the camera I have is now discontinued but you can look on Amazon to see if there's any cheap bargains going for that particular model. When I looked there last week there were some good deals on the Canon Powershot
